Pura Biodegradable Urn

The Pura Biodegradable Urn is a new addition to our range, that allows for the dignified and ceremonial laying to rest of a loved one’s ashes. The urn is made of ceramic and organic fibres, making it 100% biodegradable without any negative impact on the environment. It is incredibly versatile as the ashes can be laid to rest in the ground or in water, and the urn will not begin to degrade until introduced to the soil or water. Dimensions – 22cm high, 18cm diameter, 2kg weight, 3 litre capacity.

  • Coated in a tactile quartz sand finish
  • Dissolves in water within 20 minutes
  • Degrades in soil in 1 to 2 weeks, dependant on the soil type and humidity
  • Suitable for home or columbaria use, will not degrade unless in soil or water
  • Simply seal by dampening the edge of the lid to bond the two pieces together

How to use the Pura Biodegradable Urn:

Earth Burial:

  1. Take the water-soluble bag out of the urn.
  2. Cut the strap and keep it to close the bag.
  3. Place the open bag inside the urn and carefully place the ashes inside – a funnel may be helpful.
  4. Tie the bag closed with the strap.
  5. Seal the urn by lightly wetting the ridge of the lid and opening of the urn with a sponge or small brush – and place it on the urn, this will form a bond within a few minutes.
  6. Leave the urn to set for a few hours, but ideally overnight.
  7. Do not lift the urn by the lid once the seal has been applied.
  8. Place the urn into the ground, cover with soil and compress, making it level with the ground and then water lightly.

Water Burial:

  1. Follow steps 1 to 7 above.
  2. Slowly lower the urn into the desired area of water.
  3. The Pura Biodegradable Urn will dissolve and the ashes will disperse within 20 minutes, although temperature, water mineral components and other factors could increase or decrease this time.
